Innovative insurance company headquartered in Stamford CT seeks a Sr. Business Analyst.
The Senior Business Analyst position is an impactful role in the Technology organization, responsible for
the analysis, definition and execution of strategic and tactical projects. Projects will vary in scope from report definition
to application platform migration, and this position will be exposed to all facets of the company’s operation across 3
locations (Stamford, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland) and will be a vital player in the improvement of those operations.
The Senior Business Analyst will have the following responsibilities:
- Take ownership of assigned technology initiatives. In particular, one of the first challenges faced will be the initiation of a strategic platform migration project of the company’s core back office platform.
- Produce deliverables associated with planning, design and implementation phases of technology project work, including business requirements, use cases, and project plans
- Provide support to project owners and users to ensure successful adoption of technology projects.
- Proactively communicate progress and issues to project owners and management
- Work with key business and technology partners to evolve capabilities of the company’s technology assets
Qualifications
- BA/BS in computer science or information systems or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- 8+ years experience as a technology business analyst which involved gathering, defining, and managing business requirements for technology projects; ideal candidate will have several years of experience as a business analyst or project manager in the financial services/insurance industry
- In-depth knowledge and experience with development processes for technology, web, and/or software development
- Experience conducting and analyzing application platform migrations and data conversions, with a working knowledge of SQL; this is particularly important given that a major back office platform migration will occur in 2010.
- Good understanding of effective user interface and user experience best practices; must be able to create wireframes, use cases and document business rules and requirements using a variety of methodologies and tools
- Strong analytical and product management skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements
- Detail oriented with strong project management experience, including familiarity with MS Project or other project management system
- Must be able to provide support for users and developers and solve problems and issues arising from projects
- Ability to work with multiple organizational levels and functional departments and to recognize and resolve areas of potential conflict
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (both technical and non-technical) and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts
- Ability to facilitate discussions and experience with negotiating and building consensus
- Ideally, candidate will have advanced through the application development discipline and will possess some hands-on development ability, particularly in Java
The majority of work required for this position will be performed on-site in Stamford CT, with occasional travel as required.
